AGROTECHNOLOGY AND LIVESTOCK BREEDING DEPARTMENT

The Agrotechnology and livestock breeding department of Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute – General Toshevo was set up in 1951. The researches in the field of agrotechnology started with the very establishment of the Institute and are directed toward developing various elements of the agronomy practices for growing of wheat, sunflower and legumes depending on the specific requirements of the biological productivity of the varieties and hybrids.

GENERAL DIRECTIONS OF RESEARCH WORK:

 Varietal agrotechnology of new cultivars of cereals developed at DAI;

  • Study on the main agrotechnology elements of new oil seed sunflower hybrids and lines and new varieties of leguminous crops;
  • Efficiency of nitrogen nutrition of modern cereal cultivars grown under conditions of conventional and organic production;
  • Effect of modern organic fertilization on the yield and quality of common winter wheat (Triticum aestivum);
  • Study on innovative systems for soil tillage in crop rotation under water deficiency;
  • Effect of some agronomy factors in the formation of a productive sunflower crop under the conditions of Dobrudzha region;
  • Study on innovative plant protection practices in main field crops. Mapping of weed infestation;
  • Study on the elements of mechanized operations under different ways of post harvest residue utilization in crop rotation;
  • Study on machines and mechanized operations in the technologies for organic production of field crops;
  • Study on the possibilities to use products from cereals, leguminous crops and sunflower for making of functional foods.

             The research work of the Department is assisted by two laboratories: Laboratory of Agro chemistry and Laboratory of physical properties of soil.

 Зорница ПетроваHigher education in Plant Protection with a professional qualification of an agronomist, a graduate of  Agrarian University – Plovdiv, 2004.

Specialty in  Agricultural pharmacology, Agrarian University-Plovdiv, 2005.

In 2008 she started work at the Laboratory complex of DAI in the Laboratory of biochemistry of cereal crops.

In February of 2012 she became a regular Ph.D. student within the doctoral program of Plant protection (including plant pathology, virology, herbology, etc.)

In June of 2015 she acquired a doctoral degree in Plant Protection with a Ph.D. thesis on Response of common winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to a set of herbicides.

Since August of 2016, she has been working as a chief assistant at the Department.

Since 2018, she has been Chairman of the Agrobiology Department of the Union of Bulgarian Scientists – branch Dobrich.

In April 2022 she was appointed Head of Agrotechnology and Livestock Breeding Department.

Research interests: integrated control of weeds, efficiency of herbicides, selectivity of field crops.

Доц. д-р инж. Илия Иванов ИлиевHe graduated the Technical University in Varna in 1986 with a degree in Internal Combustion Engines and qualification for machine engineer.

He started work at DAI in 1989 at the Agrotechnology Department in the research field of Mechanization.

His PH.D. thesis for acquisition of doctoral academic level in 2004 was on Justification and study on spraying system for sunflower. In 2012, he acquired the academic position of Associate Professor. Eng. Iliev is among the few specialists in Bulgarian on machines and technologies for spraying of field crops.

He constructed and received a patent certificate for a mechanized probe for taking soil samples as a useful model. He also developed and patented a method for improvement of field crops pollination. He elaborated and constructed a machine for whole-plant spraying of sunflower with fungicides. He designed a cyclone system for unheated air ventilation of grain.

During 2005 – 2006 he was in the position of Deputy Director of the Production Sector, and since 2016 he has been Director of Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute.

He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Scientists – Dobrich branch.

He is also a member of ASABE.

Research interests: investigations on technological equipment for production of field crops, including soil tillage, planting, plant protection activities, harvesting and ways for plant residue utilization; optimization of machine equipment systems in the technologies for integrated and organic production.

Assistant Researcher Mariyana Stoycheva Stefanova

  She graduated the Technical University – Varna with a BA dgree in agronomy. In 2019 she became MA in Seed production and Plant Protection.

She began work at Dobrudzha Agrcicultural Institute in 2020 as a research assistant. In 2020 she also started her Ph.D. training under the General Cropping Doctoral Program on Effect of some agronomy factors on the formation of a productive sunflower crop under the conditions of Dobrudzha region.

The main focuses of her research work are varietal agro technology of sunflower and bean and organic production of cereals and legumes.

Специалист-агроном Светлана Димитрова ДимитроваShe graduated the Technical University – Varna in 2020 with a BA in agronomy, and in 2021 she became MA on Seed production and plant protection.

She started work at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute as an agronomist in 2020. Since March of 2022, she has been working on her Ph.D. thesis on Study on innovative systems of soil tillage in crop rotation under conditions of water deficiency.

Aс. Атанас АтанасовHe graduated the Ruse University “Angel Kunchev” with a BA in Agrarian engineering in 2014, and in 2016 he acquired MA as a Machine Engineer.

He started work at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute – General Toshevo in 2017 as an assistant researcher on Varietal agrotechnology of winter cereals in the Agrotechnology and Livestock Breeding Department. He became a part-time Ph.D. student in this department, working on his Ph.D. thesis Efficiency of nitrogen utilization in modern common wheat varieties (Tr. аestivum L.) grown under conventional and transistional organic production.

 

 

Research interests:

  • Effect of the nutrition regime, the cultivar and its previous crop on the productivity and the physical characteristics of winter cereals grown under conditions of conventional and transitional organic production;
  • Agronomy effect and effect of input fertilizer unit on agricultural produce;
  • Exportation of the main macro elements (N, P, K) from the soil and plants

Антония Стефанова АндоноваShe graduated the University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv in 2019 with a BA in Technology of the cereal, forage, bread and pastry products.

In 2020 she took her MA in Technology of the cereal, forage, bread and pastry products at the same University.

She started work at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute in 2020 as a technology specialist.

Her work is primarily focused on:

  • Organic growing of spelt, rye, bean and soy bean in a trial field;
  • Determining and investigating biological active substances and bread-making properties of the used flours from spelt, rye and soy bean.

 


Genoveva Petrova BankovaAtanasova

Геновева Петрова Банкова-АтанасоваShe graduated the Agrarian University-Plovdiv in 2014 with MA degree in Agribusiness.

She is also a graduate of the College of chemistry and bio technologies – Razgrad in 1993 with a specialty in Technology of bio production.

She started work at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute in 1982 at the Laboratory of Agro chemistry. In 2013 she was given the position of a specialist in chemistry at the Agrotechnology and Livestock Breeding Department. The main focus of her research work is on fertilization, previous crop, varietal specificity and other elements of the technology for growing of field crops. She is dealing also with studies on the dynamics of the available forms of the nutrition elements and the durable changes of soil fertility as a result from fertilization in crop rotation, as well as with evaluation of the chemical methods of easily available to plants nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

She is co-author of publications in Bulgarian and foreign journals.
