For another year, Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute (DAI) participated in the largest exhibition of breeding animals in Bulgaria, which took place in the exhibition center of the Executive Agency for Selection and Reproduction in Animal Breeding in Sliven (EASRAB), Bulgaria, during 6th – 7th October 2023. The national exhibition was organized by EASRAB and was traditionally the focal point of meeting of breeders and owners of different animal species and races grown on the territory of Bulgaria. The intention was to demonstrate the modern face of Bulgarian animal breeding. The exhibition was opened by the Minister of Agriculture and Foods Kiril Vatev.
DAI participated with a total of nine elite animals of the north-eastern Bulgarian fine-fleeced breed of Dobrudzha type, including 3 rams aged 2-4 years, 3 mother ewes aged 3 years and 3 young ovine animals each 9 months old.
A three-member committee selected the best animals from each animal group. DAI was awarded a cup and a certificate for participation and contribution to the organization of the National Animal Breeding Exhibition in Sliven by EASRAB’s Executive Director Georgi Yordanov.
Currently, the only elite flock of the North-eastern Bulgarian fine-fleeced breed of about 1200 animals is maintained at DAI. There is an increasing interest to this breed from animal breeders in South Bulgaria as well.
