ORGANIC PRODUCTION
at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute – General Toshevo
The organic production at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute started in the autumn of 2019. Cereal crops – einkorn wheat and rye cultivar Matador – were sown on an area of 21 da for each crop.
In the spring of 2022 leguminous crops were also sown – common bean cultivar Vezhen and soy bean cultivar Avigeya, on a total area of 42 da. Economic year 2019 – 2020 was the first year of the transition to organic production, which was completed during 2020 – 2021.
Harvest year 2021 – 2022 marked the beginning of the organic production at the institute. The agricultural crops – rye, einkorn wheat, common bean and soybean, were sown at norms and dates optimal for the region of Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute. No pesticides (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides) or fertilizers were applied during the vegetative growth of the crops. All agronomy practices related to the cultivation of the experimental fields were observed. The crops were harvested within the optimal dates. In May of 2022, Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute was granted a certificate for organic production of cereal crops, and in July – a certificate for leguminous crops.
In the following years Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute will be offering to the market rye and einkorn flour, and organic products from organically produced common bean and soybean.
